ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHOF) announced Steven Newbold to the 2018 Watch List for the Black College Football Player of the Year Award on Wednesday. The Award is in its third year and is presented to the most outstanding football player from a Historically Black College & University.
Newbold is a part of a list of 52 players representing 25 different Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The winner of the 2018 Player of the Year Award will be honored with the Deacon Jones Trophy during the Black College Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Feb. 16, 2019 in Atlanta. Four finalists will be unveiled on November 29.
The Tigers wide receiver hauled in 34 receptions for 627 yards and four touchdowns during his sophomore campaign after going for 784 yards and six touchdowns on 41 catches as a freshman. The junior was named to the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason All-Conference team in July.
The Tigers open the 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the John Merritt Classic against Bethune-Cookman.
