TSU Football - Early Signing Day

NASHVILLE – Tennessee State head coach Rod Reed announces the signing of players to join the Tigers for the 2019 fall season.

Follow along throughout the day for updates of the new members for the Big Blue.

This is the second year players are able to sign a National Letter of Intent in December. Teams will also be able to sign players during the traditional February signing period. The Tigers annual Signing Day Celebration introducing all signees, as well as midyear-transfers, will take place on Feb. 6.

  • Intercepted five passes as a senior
  • Recorded a pick-six
  • Drew Interest from Cincinnati, Georgia State and Tuskegee

“Hollis a corner with a lot of length and good cover skills. I believe he is a guy who can come in and help us in the secondary.”

Chicago, Ill. | New Mexico

  • Played in 12 games for New Mexico in 2018
  • Finished with 43 tackles, 23 solo
  • Led the Lobos with 8.5 tackles for loss, totaling 48 yards, on the season
  • Secured a game high 2.5 TFLs at New Mexico State
  • Topped UNM with 5.5 sacks for 43 yards, including a game high 2.0 at New Mexico State
  • Wrapped up the season with one breakup and three quarterback hurries
  • Forced a fumble against Wyoming
  • Recovered fumbles versus San Diego State and at Air Force
  • After redshirting his freshman season, played in 10 games, starting eight
  • Finished seventh on the team in tackles with 37, including 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sacks
  • Posted a career-high seven tackles in back-to-back games, against Boise State and against Tulsa
  • Recorded first career sack against Tulsa, ending a Tulsa
  • Added six tackles against Air Force and New Mexico State
  • Made five tackles against Fresno State
  • Prepped at Proviso West High School, playing football and soccer
  • As a senior, named all-conference and all-state, as well as all-area
  • Recorded 40 tackles, an interception and a tackle for loss in his final season
  • Scored four touchdowns on offense, three rushing and one receiving
  • Caught 11 passes for 152 yards and rushed for 264 yards, adding three more scores
  • In basketball, broke the 1,000-point barrier for his career during his junior campaign

“Epting is a transfer from New Mexico. He is a really good pass rusher and has the ability yo play defensive end, as well as outside linebacker. He has good length at about 6-3 and he is just explosive off the edge.”

  • Anchored an offensive unit which averaged 411.1 yards per game and 31.9 points
  • Played in five games as a freshmen
  • Prepped at Columbus HS

“Will is a junior college kid we feel really good about. After losing two offensive tackles with Chidi (Okeke) and (Justin) Brooks, we knew we had to bring in an older guy to fortify the offensive line. We feel he can come in and make an immediate impact up front.”

  • Helped CMCP to three consecutive FHSAA 3A State Championship Games
  • Guided the Lions win back-to-back State titles
  • Key member of defense which allowed opponents to 13 points, only one touchdown, in four playoff games
  • Registered 184 tackles over his final two seasons, including 96 as a senior
  • Had 21 tackles for loss as a junior, added 10 in his final season
  • Picked off six passes as a senior after grabbing three as a junior
  • Received interest from Southern Miss, Appalachian State, Syracuse and Utah State

“Ahmaud is a safety out of Chaminade and is coming off a second straight state championship. He is a really big hitter out of the secondary with great awareness on the back end.”

  • Helped MHS to a 12-2 record as a senior
  • Guided his squad to a semifinal appearance at the Tennessee Class 4A State Championships
  • Registered 69 tackles, 45 solo, in his final campaign
  • Tallied 17 tackles for loss, including 15 sacks
  • Offensively, caught three passes for 37 yards and a touchdown at tight end

“Dowty is a defensive end from here locally out of Maplewood. He had 20-plus sacks his senior year. He has good size at 6-3, 235 pounds. It is great to have local kids who want to come in and be a part of the TSU family.”

  • Prepped for Dameon Jones
  • Guided CMCP to three consecutive FHSAA 3A State Championship Games
  • Helped the Lions win back-to-back State titles
  • Led squad to a 12-2 record as a senior
  • Played guard on offense and nose tackle on the defensive line
  • Received interest from Bowling Green and Southern Miss
