OPENING TIP: Playing its third-consecutive game on national television, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team opens Ohio Valley Conference play at UT Martin on Dec. 28 on CBS Sports Network. The Tigers have had six different players score in double figures led by Delano Spencer, who has notched 10 such games this season. Spencer (15.0 ppg) and Christian Mekowulu (11.6 ppg) were TSU’s top two producers on the offensive end during non-conference play.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU fell to No. 16 Purdue, 97-48, in the non-conference finale on Dec. 21. Delano Spencer finished with a team-high 13 points with Christian Mekowulu adding 10 points and four rebounds for TSU.
ABOUT UT MARTIN: The Skyhawks have won four of their last five games entering Ohio Valley Conference play – most recently taking down Arkansas Pine Bluff by a 74-68 final score on Dec. 22. UT Martin, which has played in the OVC Championship Game in each of the last two seasons, is led in scoring by Matthew Butler’s 17.2 points per game.
LAST SEASON VS. UT MARTIN: Delano Spencer delivered 19 points off the bench to lift TSU to a 76-65 comeback win over UT Martin in last year’s meeting at the Gentry Center in Nashville. The Tigers shot 48.3 percent, including 66.7 percent in the second half, while forcing 15 turnovers in the win. The Skyhawks led by as many as 12 points in the first half before TSU mounted a comeback.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Tennessee State is 33-25 in the all-time series versus UT Martin dating back to the 1966-67 season. TSU is looking for its first road win in the series since Jan. 26, 2012 – a 72-59 victory for the Tigers.
