TSU Men's Cross Country Gets Season Underway at Golden Eagle Invitational

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Freshman Marcus Abdul (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Tennessee State men’s cross country team with a 37th place finish at the Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday at Ironwood Golf Course.

Abdul’s time of 23:27.9 in the 6K was less than a minute ahead of TSU’s second-place time of 23:45.4 from Jamario Scott (Cincinnati, Ohio).

TSU finished sixth in the team competition with 170 points, while Auburn won the event with 39 points.

MEET NOTES

  • TSU had two freshmen finish in its top three including Abdul and Larry McNary (Memphis, Tenn.), who ran a time of 24:33.2 for third on the team and 39th overall.
  • Jontue McDowell (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Quintsontro Irby, Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) rounded out TSU’s top five with times of 24:34.2 and 26:12.9, respectively.
