BATAVIA, Ohio --- Inclement weather played a role during the final round of the NKU Fall Collegiate Classic. Teams battled overcast conditions and even had to endure an hour delay due to heavy rain. As a result, only two teams in the 17 team field posted team scores better than either of their previous rounds.
The Tigers teamed to shoot a 24-over on Monday to finish in 11th place at 47-over, 899. Dayton claimed the team title at 7-over, 859.
Jermey Fultz tried to make a charge for the individual title during the final round and was 2-under on the day before the stoppage of play. The senior gave two strokes back after resuming play, before closing out at Even-par. Fultz (72-73-71=216) moved up four spots during the final round to finish sixth in a field of 100 golfers at 3-over. IPFW’s Devin Jenkins took away individual honors with an Even, 213.
Fultz finished with three birdies as he hit 16 of 18 greens and needed 28 putts on the day. Fultz opened the day with a birdie on the second hole of play. The Knoxville native hit a 9-iron from 144 yards out to two feet of the flag on the par-5, 5th. Five holes later, Fultz hit a wedge shot from 65 yards to three feet on the par-4, 9th, for his second birdie. Fultz recorded his final score-cutter two holes later on the par-3, 12th, as he sank a 10 foot putt.
Sam Gatlin (86-83-79=248) posted his first scoring round of the season on Monday. Gatlin started slow and was 7-over after the first four holes. The sophomore would settle in and make par on 13 of the final 14 holes to finish 8-over on the day.
Drew Owens (73-73-76=222) and Todd McGill (77-74-82=233) carded the final two scoring rounds for the Tigers.
