BUCHANAN, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State men’s golf team opened the Skyhawk Fall Classic in impressive fashion. The Tigers charged out to a season best 1-under, 287, during the morning session and was tied for second as a team. TSU sat two strokes behind the host UT Martin.
Individually, Rosario Falzone and freshman Jay Grove each fired 2-under, 70’s, and were tied in the race for top honors, one stroke off the lead. Junior Jermey Fultz was not far behind after carding an Even, 72.
The afternoon session was not as kind to the Tigers as they fell out of contention with a 25-over, 315, good for 8th out of 11 with one round to play.
Fultz shot a 3-over, 75, to lead the Tigers with a two-round score of 147, which ties for 20th out of 69 golfers and eight strokes off the lead. Falzone sits two strokes behind Fultz and four ahead of Grove.
Todd McGill posted a 3-over, 75, to score in the first round for the Tigers and followed up with a countable 8-over, 80, in the second. Drew Owens shot a non-scoring 4-over in the morning, but gave TSU a countable 7-over, 79, in the final round of the day.
The Tigers return to the course on Tuesday for the final round, which begins at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
