Murray, Ky. - The Tennessee State University men and women's tennis teams lost their respective matches, 7-0, in OVC play to Murray State at the Purcell Tennis Court on Tuesday afternoon (3/30).
The women's squad moves to 0-7 (0-6 OVC) and the men drop to 0-5 (0-4 OVC). For Murray State, the men improve to 4-7 (1-2 OVC) and the women go to 5-8 (2-2 OVC).
In doubles play, Haynes and Johnson (0-7, 0-6 OVC) paired up at No. 1 against Lindsey Wiseman and McGahee falling 8-1.
Washington and Hamm teamed up to face Clos and Caetano dropping a tough fought match at No.1, 8-4. The Racers sealed the doubles point when Luka Milicevic and Renaldo Domoney defeated Austin Fields and Aaron Fields (0-7, 0-6), 8-2.
Next, TSU Tennis will travel to Charleston, Ill. to face Eastern Illinois on Saturday, April 3, at the Darling Courts. Competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
For EIU, the men's squad posts an overall 3-12 record, with a 1-1 record at home while going 0-3 in the OVC. The women are 4-9 overall, 2-1 at home and 1-3 in conference matches.
Both teams ride a losing streak entering the match. The men's four-game skid includes a 5-2 OVC loss to Morehead State (3/28). The women have loss three in a row, which includes a 7-0 defeat to Morehead State (3/28) in their last outing.
Top players for the Panthers include: 2009 All-OVC Second Team and 2010 Preseason selection Jeff Rutherford (7-8, 2-1 OVC), Justin Haag (8-7, 0-3 OVC), Whitley Merritt (8-5, 2-2 OVC) and Amanda Dibbs (2-11, 0-4 OVC).
Probable No. 1 doubles for both squads include: Rutherford and Haag (3-5, 0-2 OVC), Merritt and Dibbs (3-7, 1-3 OVC), Shannon Brooks and Kisten Laird (4-4, 1-2 OVC).
After EIU, TSU will go head-to-head with Austin Peay State in Clarksville, Tenn. on April 7.
