COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – Day two of the 15th annual HBCU Tennis Championships included a pair of victories for the Tennessee State men’s tennis team at the South Fulton Tennis Center on Friday.
“I’m happy with the way we competed today,” Tennessee State Head Coach Monroe Walker III said. “I knew the competition would be tough. We showed fight and came out on top for some and others fell a little short.”
TSU senior Kyle Burton played his way to an 8-0 victory over Tuskegee’s Michael Graham in consolation round of 16 for B Flight singles.
Burton was also part of the Tigers’ winning B Flight doubles team on the day. Taking on Agustin Waitman and Karlyn Small from Florida A&M, Burton paired with sophomore Shashank Nautiyal for an 8-5 win in the round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals.
In singles play, senior Daniel Bernal and freshman Jorge Rodriguez both played three-set matches, ultimately falling in their respective matches.
