Men's Tennis Defeats Arkansas Pine Bluff for Second-Consecutive Day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the second day in a row, the Tennessee State men’s tennis team defeated Arkansas Pine Bluff by a 7-0 final score at Hadley Park.

The Tigers (4-1) once again won all three doubles matches on Sunday before taking all six singles matches in straight sets from the Golden Lions (0-6).

“It was a great win today,” Tennessee State tennis coach Monroe Walker III said. “We came out with more energy. We need to shake the nerves from the start of matches, but I’m happy with the direction we are going. We are excited to start practice this week.”

Shashank Nautiyal (Delhi, India) and Kyle Burton (Madison, Tenn.) won their team-leading fifth doubles match at No. 1 on the day by a 6-4 final score. The Daniel Bernal (Bogota, Colombia) and Jorge Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia) pairing picked up a 6-3 No. 2 doubles win, while Grant Maddox (Greenbrier, Tenn.) and Amir Daniel (Atlanta, Ga.) were victorious at No. 3.

The Tigers continued to roll in singles highlighted by Nautiyal’s No. 1 win by a 6-4, 6-0 score. Bernal added his team-leading seventh singles victory at the No. 2 slot and Rodriguez won by scores of 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 position.

Maddox and Burton did not drop a game in their 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and 5, with Daniel securing a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.  

The next time the Tigers are in action is Feb. 19 for a match at Dayton.
