Men's Tennis Falls at Northern Kentucky

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Playing for the second-consecutive day, the Tennessee State men’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Northern Kentucky on the road on Saturday at the Five Seasons Sports Club. Grant Maddox (Greenbrier, Tenn.) picked up a win in singles for TSU.

“The guys didn’t play bad today,” TSU Head Coach Monroe Walker III said. “NKU is a good team, and we didn’t match their intensity. Grant (Maddox) had another great match, and he is playing awesome tennis. We need everyone to learn from his fight and competitiveness. We have some work to do.”

TSU fell behind in doubles as the Norse took the three matches to earn the point. Competing at No. 3 doubles, Shashank Nautiyal (Delhi, India) and Jorge Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia) came up just short in a 7-5 loss.

In No. 5 singles, Maddox earned a three-set win over NKU’s Blaine Carr. Maddox won the first set, 6-4, before falling in the second set. In the third-set tiebreaker, Maddox held on for a 17-15 win.

The Tigers will return to action on Feb. 27 to face Middle Tennessee on the road.
