MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State men’s tennis team took on Rhodes in a hard-fought 5-4 win road win over the Lynx on Saturday afternoon.
“This was a great win for the guys,” Head Coach Monroe Walker III stated. ”We really showed heart today. We were down after doubles but everyone knew we could still win. We are down a player due to injury but everyone stepped up. Shanky played great and took care of business. Kyle followed suit. Tom won in a very close three set match. Both players were playing great but Tom did not miss in the tie breaker. Grant clinched the match for us at No.6. I think that was his best match he has played this year. Hopefully he can keep it up.”
After falling behind in doubles, the Tigers responded with four singles victories to pick up the victory against their NAIA opponent.
TSU earned one point in doubles play thanks to the effort of Kyle Burton and Tom Parant at No. 2. The duo picked up an 8-4 win in their matchup with Sean Hogan and Andrew Morton.
Parant was also victorious in his No. 3 singles match versus Ritwik Chatterjee, securing a 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 win. Shashank Nautiyal went on to win at No. 4 6-1, 6-2.
Burton cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 final score at No. 5, and Grant Maddox completed the win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Daniel Olivier at No. 6 singles.
The Tigers will take on Austin Peay on Friday, Mar. 17 at Hadley Park.
