Beal and Koko Grab First Place
Atlanta, Ga. The Tennessee State University men's track team sparked the outdoor season capturing two first place awards with six top-five finish at the 38th Annual Morehouse Relays in Atlanta, Ga.
Anes Koko took first place in the open 800-meter dash with a time 1:57.66 defeating the next competitior by nearly three seconds. Darreal Beal led the field peformances winning the long jump with a mark of 23'00.75". The win is Beal's second overall during the 2009 track and field season and first in outdoor competition.
TSU picked up third place finishes courtesy of Phillip Myton, Avian Hughes, and the 4x400-meter relay. Myton won his heat in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:01.31 but finished third overall in the final standings. Hughes posted his best finish of the season with a leap of 21'10.75". The 4x400 meter finished the day with a 3:21.12.
Trenton Britt came close to a career best jumping 48'00.00" in the triple jump to place second among collegiate competitors and fourth overall. The 4x100-meter relay debut running a 42.22 to take fourth overall and third among the college teams.
Coming up, TSU will be dormant in competition before competing in the Austin Peay Invitational hosted by Austin Peay State on April 4th in Clarksville, Tenn.
