BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- Following the Tennessee State men’s track and field team's strong start to the indoor season, Quamel Prince (Nashville, Tenn.) earned Ohio Valley Conference Track Athlete of the Week and Kareem Nicholas (Atlanta, Ga.) earned OVC Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
Prince won the 800m at the Vanderbilt Opener to open the season before taking first in the Mile at the Ed Temple Classic in his second outing. At the Vanderbilt Opener, Prince was part of the winning 4x400m relay team, which clocked in at 3:14.96 - the 22nd best time in the nation this year.
He won the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.22, which is the best in the OVC this season and 12th in the nation. Prince’s mile time of 4:23.30 ranks fourth in the OVC this year.
Nicholas earned the weekly honor for his performances in the long jump and triple jump. He won the triple jump at the Ed Temple Classic and was third in the long jump at the Vanderbilt Opener. His triple jump mark of 49’05.75” is top in the OVC and is good for 13th in the nation. Nicholas’ long jump distance of 23’04.75” is also the best in the league and ranks 41st in the nation so far this season.
Next up, the Flying Tigers will head to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 13-14.
