OXFORD, Ala. --- Kyle Washington-Scott (St. Louis, Mo.) set a new personal record in the hammer throw to highlight the Tennessee State men’s track and field team’s effort on day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship at Choccolocco Park on Thursday.
Washington-Scott scored five points for TSU, which sits in sixth place after the first day. Eastern Illinois leads the field with 23 points with two days remaining.
On his fifth throw of the day, Washington-Scott’s toss reached 54.25m (178’0”) to help him earn fourth overall. Entering the OVC Championship, his previous best for the hammer came at this year’s Georgia Tech Invitational when he reached 53.33m (175’0”).
Also competing in the hammer, Roc-M Nesbitt (Atlanta, Ga.) secured 14th place with a distance of 45.63m (149’8.75”). The distance is a personal record for the senior.
Day two of the OVC Championship begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
