LEXINGTON, Ky. --- On day one of the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday, Tennessee State men’s track and field seniors Quamel Prince (Nashville, Tenn.) and Kareem Nicholas (Atlanta, Ga.) represented the Flying Tigers against some of the nation's elite.

Prince ran the 17th fastest time in the 800m in Thursday’s first round, clocking in at 1:49.84. The performance earns the senior a spot in the NCAA East Preliminary quarterfinals tomorrow at 6:45 p.m. ET (5:45 p.m. CT) in Lexington.

Prince, who is one of 24 competitors to advance to tomorrow’s race, finished fourth in the first heat and ran a 53.29 opening 400m to lead his race after the first lap. In tomorrow’s quarterfinals, the top three from the three heats as well as the next three best times will earn a spot in the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Competing at the NCAA East Preliminary for the second time in his career, Nicholas fouled on his three long jump attempts on Thursday. The 2017 Ohio Valley Conference outdoor champion in the long jump and triple jump, Nicholas capped his standout TSU career with six OVC medals.
