Hughes and Prince Compete against Nation’s Best at USATF Outdoor Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium on Thursday, Tennessee State track and field senior Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) earned fifth place in the women’s triple jump while fellow senior Quamel Prince (Nashville, Tenn.) secured 19th in the men’s 800m.

Hughes’ fifth place distance of 13.32m (43’8.5”) came on her second jump of the day. The distance matches her performance at the NCAA National Championships from earlier this month. The Atlanta, Ga. native had two other jumps past 13m, reaching 13.25m (43’5.75”) on her fifth attempt and 13.01m (42’8.25”) on her fourth try.  

On the track, Prince clocked in at 1:48.52 in the 800m for 19th overall. Prince, who finished third in the third heat, was in fourth in his heat after the first lap but was able to move up to secure his position.
