Flying Tigers Win Eight Medals on Saturday at OVC Outdoor Championship

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Highlighted by six individual medals to go with golds in both relays, the Tennessee State men’s track and field team earned sixth place at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship on Saturday at Tucker Stadium.

  • The Flying Tigers captured four gold medals (4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 200m, 400m), three silver medals (110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, triple jump) and one bronze (400m).
  • TSU’s 4x100m relay team of James Faison, David Jones, Jamario Scott and R’Lazon Brumfield teamed up for a winning time of 41.15.
  • In the 4x400m relay, Faison and Scott teamed with Chris Givens and Isaiah Olige for the day’s top time of 3:11.69.
  • Individually, Faison also won gold medals in the 200m in 21.00 and the 400m in 47.12. Both times are personal records for the senior standout.
  • TSU’s top hurdler, Isaiah Olige, accounted for two silver medals on the day. The senior set a new personal record in the 400m hurdles in 51.68. He also placed second in the 110m hurdles in 14.75.
  • Brumfield came away with a new career best in the triple jump to earn the silver on Saturday. His mark of 15.50m (50’10.25”) bested his previous distance of 15.31m (50’2.75”) from the Vanderbilt Opener during the indoor season.
  • Givens completed his strong rookie season with a bronze medal in the 400m thanks to a season-best time of 48.16.
  • Picking up fourth-place finishes on the day for the Flying Tigers were Brumfield in the 200m (21.56) and Michael Willingham Jr. in the discus (47.13m – 154’7”).
