STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State men's and women's track and field team hit the road for its first indoor meet of 2020. The two-day meet begins, Friday, Jan. 10 in the Nutter Field House on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

LAST TIME OUT: In the sole home meet of the season, honoring the late Edward Temple, the Flying Tigers took 21 top-five finishes while the Tigerbelles took 12.
Thomas Mosley placed first in the mile with a time of 4:33.77, Ashley Bailey, Jamario Scott, Michael Thompson and R’Lazon Brumfield teamed up to win the 4x400 and a slew of field athletes took the top spot in their respective events, including Jaedon Jones in the high jump (1.87m), Brumfield in the long (7.62m) and triple jump (15.22m) and Michael Willingham (16.65m) in the weight throw.
Angel Horton took top spots in the long and triple jump, leading the Tigerbelles with leaps of 5.57m and 12.07m, respectively. Adding to the fierce field team, Amani Taylor took third in the weight throw and fifth in the shot put, while her teammate Mikayla Thompson threw 15.14m in the shot put to take second and 17.38m in the weight throw to take fourth. Mid-distance star Rebekah Wynn placed second in the 800 meter dash (2:32.56) and fourth in the mile (5:43.13). Newcomer Alysoune Coleman led TSU in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and was a member of the 4x400 relay team that placed second overall.
IN THE NATION: TSU sophomore R’Lazon Brumfield currently ranks first in the nation in the triple jump with a leap of 15.96m at the Purdue Fred Wilt Open, and fourth in the nation in the long jump after a 7.62m mark at the Edward Temple Classic. Angel Horton's performance at the Classic placed her in 23rd in the triple jump.
UP NEXT: TSU will compete in the UAB Green and Gold Invitational Jan. 24-25 in Birmingham, Alabama.
