Moments in TSU History: Dominique Dominates Two Sports

Looking back at one of the most versatile student-athletes at Tennessee State University.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie attended Lakewood Ranch High School where he was a defensive back and wide receiver. He was named the most underrated prospect in the state of Florida by the High School Recruiting Report. While at Lakewood Ranch, he also competed as a jumper and sprinter on the school's track team.

He continued his impressive performance on the college level. Rodgers-Cromartie left TSU as a two-time All-American and three-time All-Ohio Valley first-team selection. He appeared in 44 games, starting in 39. During his college career he had 11 interceptions, returned four for touchdowns and averaged 28.5 yards per interception return.

DRC also returned a fumble and kickoff for touchdowns and blocked eight kicks while at TSU. During his career, he returned 36 kickoffs for 859 yards and six punts for 44 yards and on offensive side of the ball, he caught two passes for 46 yards and rushed twice for 16 yards.

An all-around athlete, Rodgers-Cromartie was also a track star in college, qualifying for the NCAA Mid-East Regionals after he won gold in the long jump at the 2007 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship with a jump of 2' 0.75". He dominated the  Championship and won the Top Male Athlete award after winning the 60-meter dash (6.89), long jump (25' 0.75") and high jump (6'9.5"). He finished second in the triple jump (48'8").

Known for his highlight-reel ability, Rodgers-Cromartie was drafted in 2008 to the Arizona Cardinals in the first round (overall 16) of the NFL Draft. Rodgers-Cromartie was the second CB drafted in the NFL in 2008 and he helped the Cardinals to a Super Bowl apperance that following season.

DRC has played with the Arizona Cardinals (2008-2010), Philadelphia Eagles (2011-2012), Denver Broncos (2013), New York Giants (2014-2017), Oakland Raiders (2018) and the Washington Redskins (2019).
