Acknowledging a Tennessee State team that went from the bottom of the conference to champions in just one year.

In 2005, the TSU volleyball team flipped its 2-14 record from a season ago to a 14-2 mark en route to the school's first conference title. The Tigers won a school-record 22 games on the season and were a perfect 11-0 in games played at Kean Hall.

During a stretch from Sept. 24 to Oct. 29, the team won 12-straight matches, and only encountered one five-set match.

The key to 2005 team's success was defense. The Tigers led the conference in opponent's hitting percentage at .151- 15 points lower than the second place team. The club was even more successful in conference games, holding opponents to a .137 clip.

Big Blue was also second in the conference in blocks per game after collecting a total of 282 in 33 games. The team was led by Meesha Jackson who collected 142 blocks during the course of the season, earning her second place in the conference.

Another factor in the Tigers' championship season was their ability to serve the ball. Three members of the team ranked in the top five in service aces. Tiana Maua led the OVC with 70 aces during the 2005 slate, but teammates Katrelle Armwood and Erika Godbolt were not far behind with 46 and 41, respectively.

The trio helped TSU lead the conference with 2.01 aces per set through the course of the year.

Armwood also set the single-season school mark for digs in a season with 587.
