NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State extended its winning streak to six games with a 9-1 and 11-0 doubleheader sweep of visiting Jackson State Thursday afternoon. TSU, playing at home for just the second time this season, improves to 12-10 overall. The JSU Lady Tigers fall to 10-15. TSU shortstop Nira Robbins stretched her hitting streak to 11 straight games with four hits in the two games. Third baseman Leena Worrell had three RBI in the wins, giving her 23 on the season in TSU's 22 games. In the first game, TSU pounded out a season-high 13 hits and Candace Hildebrand scattered four hits and allowed an unearned run in improving her record to 3-3 on the season. Third baseman Leena Worrell was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Robbins was 2-for-4 with a RBI while center fielder Diana Clifford was 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Melanie Cruz was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Six different players had RBI for the Tigers. In the second game, TSU scored nine runs with two out in the second inning on the way to the shutout victory and their high run total on the season. Emily Samana's three-run homer, her fifth of the season, was a highlight of the inning as the Tigers sent 13 batters to the plate. Clifford was 3-for-3 while Cruz and Robbins each had a pair of hits and scored twice. Samantha Hurst tossed the four-hit shutout in the five inning contest. Alexzandra Adversalo and Heather Shove had two hits on the day for the JSU Lady Tigers. TSU opens Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend at Jacksonville State in a three-game series.
