NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State managed just one hit in each game as visiting Tennessee Tech took both ends of a doubleheader, 8-0 and 7-0, in Ohio Valley Conference softball play under cold conditions Thursday evening. Tech (23-7, 5-0) got strong pitching performances in each of the games and built early leads in both contests. Tech took the early lead in the first game as Beth Boden reached on a fielding error and later scored on Stephanie Fischer's double to right center. Boden's one out line drive home run over the center field fence started a three-run third inning for the Golden Eagles. An error led to two more runs in the inning. Boden's single down the right field line scored two runs and Fischer added her second RBI of the game on a hit through the right side. Tech starter Bonnie Bynum allowed just one hit, a leadoff single in the fourth inning to Nira Robbins, TSU's only base runner in the game. Bynum struck out 10 and ran her record to 14-3 with the loss. Candace Hildebrand allowed two earned runs, but was stuck with the loss and falls to 3-5 on the season. In the second game, Tech scored two runs in each of the first three innings. Fisher had three RBI and a pair of hits and Krystina Dobbs was 2-for-3 with two RBI. The big story for Tech was the pitching of sophomore Sarah Street. Street was with in one out of tossing a perfect game when TSU third baseman Leene Worrell lined a double to right field. Street retired the next batter to complete the victory. Boden and Fischer each had five hits on the day for the Golden Eagles. TSU (12-14, 0-4) hosts Samford in a three-game series this weekend.
