Despite yielding eight hits and two homeruns in game one, TSU pulled out the close 4-3 win.
Doubles from Bridget Metzger and Caitlin Eaton led to TSU grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Tigers’ advantage was short lived, however, as the Panthers posted a run in the second and third inning to go up 2-1.
TSU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to make the lead 4-2 and despite giving up a homerun in the bottom of the inning the Tigers were able to keep the Panthers at bay.
TSU recorded eight hits in the win while Webb picked up her second and Eaton picked up her sixth homerun of the season. Megan Hedrick (3-5) picked up the win and Kelly Troglin notched her first save of the year.
TSU carried the momentum from game one’s win into the rubber match and jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Tigers never looked back on the way to the 11-6 win.
Bridget Metzger got things started with a double to right center in the top of the first and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Tamara Perkins. She later scored on an RBI by Jalisa Bradley. Caitlin Eaton also plated for the Tigers to give TSU a 2-0 lead.
EIU managed to score a couple of runs over the next two innings but TSU responded in the top of the fourth when Christy Hill recorded her first career grand slam to give TSU a commanding 10-2 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Bridget Metzger crossed the plate for the second time in the game to give TSU an 11-4 lead.
EIU added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Caitlin Eaton was credited with the win, her first of the season while EIU hurler Kathleen Jacoby was tagged with the loss (2-4). TSU had nine hits and 10 walks in the game.
