MATCH INFORMATION: The Tennessee State volleyball team will host its first tournament in Kean Hall Sept. 1-2. Head Coach Donika Sutton’s alma mater, Alcorn State, will take on the Tigers Friday at 12 p.m. New Orleans and Florida International will also compete for the top spot in the Tiger Invitational.

TSU UPDATE: The Tigers enter its home opener after a trip to Bowling Green to take on #24 Western Kentucky which left TSU with a 1-3 record. In this week’s meetings, the team has focused on studying its own film and upping the intensity in practice which will hopefully leave the Tigers 4-3 at the end of the weekend. Tennessee State will be looking to Julia Pierson, Rachel Henderson and Sam Beltran to lead the offense, and libero Cherlie Adorno DeJesus to add to her 69 digs this season.

SERIES INFORMATION: The Tigers are 2-0 in the all-time series against Alcorn State and 0-4 against New Orleans. This weekend will account for the first match between the Tigers and Florida International.

ABOUT ALCORN STATE: The Braves hold a 0-5 record entering the Tiger Invitational. In all but one of the matches, the Braves were swept 0-3. In its match against Loyola University (LA), Alcorn State took the first set 25-21. Singryd Valadares and Jasmine Chambers will be the two Braves looking to score this weekend with a combined 28 kills and 28 assists.

ABOUT NEW ORLEANS: The Privateers are coming off of a 2-1 record after playing against tournament team FIU in its UNO Invitational Aug. 25-26. Blessing Dunn, junior outside hitter, recorded 17 kills and 10 digs against fellow OVC team Southeast Missouri who New Orleans defeated 3-2.

ABOUT FIU: Florida International is traveling to Nashville after losing its first three matches of the season last weekend. On offense, FIU hitters Margherita Bianchin and Tajia Thomas averaged more than 10 kills per match, together collecting 68 kills in one weekend. Freshman setter Molly Feldmeth has been an asset on both sides recording only one of six triple-doubles in Division I play last weekend.

UP NEXT: The Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Sept. 8-9 for the Hampton Inn Bama Bash to take on Alabama, Furman and Hofstra.
