QUICK HITTERS: Tennessee State volleyball looks to improve on its 4-0 Ohio Valley Conference record as it hosts Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State in Kean Hall. The Tigers will take on the Colonels Friday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m., followed by a noon match versus the Eagles Saturday, Oct. 6. 

In the all-time series versus EKU the Tigers are 11-54; and against MSU, TSU is 13-48. Last season, Big Blue dropped both matches to the Colonels losing 3-1 at home and in Richmond, Kentucky. The Tigers split its matches against the Eagles, winning 3-1 at home, and falling 3-1 in Wetherby Gym. 

TSU UPDATE: Big Blue suffered a hard-fought loss to Conference USA opponent Middle Tennessee Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Kean Hall. The Tigers fell in five, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 15-11. Senior Rachel Henderson registered a career-high blocks with a match-high eight, surpassing 50 blocks on the season. Julia Pierson posted her fifth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 10 digs. Three Tigers recorded double-digit digs – Pierson, 10; Gina Rivera Ortiz, 13; Destiny Washington, 13. TSU finished with 55 kills on 164 attempts with 22 errors, outpacing the Blue Raiders’ 54 kills and .144 attack percentage.

After two weeks of conference play, TSU is ranked second in the league. 

SCOUTING EKU: The Colonels are split in OVC play as they head into the weekend, 2-2. The wins come from victories in the Alumni Coliseum. Senior setter/right side Cassie Knutson leads the team in kills (177), ranking ninth in the league. Chloe Rojas leads the backcourt ranking fourth in the OVC with 4.47 digs per set. 

SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE: The Eagles sit at number three in the conference, just one spot below the Tigers as it has gone 3-1 in conference play, 12-5 overall. Morehead State also leads the league in opponent hitting percentage and blocks, categories where TSU stands at number two. Sophomore Olivia Lohmeier is the offensive leader for MSU, as the outside hitter ranks fourth in points, fifth in kills and ninth in hitting percentage. 

UP NEXT: The Tigers continue its home stand as it hosts conference-leader Austin Peay and Murray State next weekend, Friday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m., respectively.
