QUICK HITTERS: Tennessee State travels to Edwardsville, Illinois to take on the SIUE Cougars, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. The Tigers are looking to improve upon its current 5-4 all-time series record agaisnt SIU-Edwardsville, while keeping its winning Ohio Valley Conference record. Heading into the weekend, Big Blue is 6-5 in conference play.
In the last matchup between the teams, SIUE walked away with a 3-0 win over TSU (25-22, 25-17, 25-23).
TSU UPDATE: The Tigers headed to the Curb Event Center for a mid-week match against crosstown-rival Belmont Tuesday evening. Big Blue came out swinging, finishing the first two sets in haste, 25-17, 25-20. The Bruins answered with two powerful sets to even the score before taking the match to five. Belmont, who had upset conference-leader Austin Peay just a weekend before, repeat with a fifth set win 15-9.
Three Tigers posted double-doubles: Julia Pierson registered her 10th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 14 digs; Laken Te’o registered her 14th with 40 assists and 10 digs; Rachel Henderson registered her fifth with 12 kills and 10 digs. For the second match in-a-row freshman Aria Holmes finished with the team-high blocks, with six.
After five weeks of conference play, TSU is ranked fifth in the league.
SCOUTING SIUE: The Cougars are on a three-match win streak after defeating Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky in four sets. Sophomore outside Rachel McDonald is ranked 10th in the league in kills, summing 248 on the season on a .214 clip. Jordyn Klein, the libero for SIUE ranks ninth in the league, averaging 3.96 digs per set.
