The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will continue its season-opening road swing on Sunday when the Lady Tigers travel to Columbus to take on Ohio State. TSU will face OSU at 2 p.m. ET in Value City Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
In the first official game of the season, Tennessee State dropped a, 74-56, decision to Cleveland State on the road Friday night. After trailing, 30-23, at the break, TSU was outscored, 44-33, in the second half. Jasmin Shuler led TSU with 18 points while Tayla Foster added 14. Destiney Gaston just missed a double-double with 10 rebounds and eight points.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Last season, TSU finished with an overall record of 9-21 with a 5-13 conference mark. TSU entered the OVC tournament as the 7th seed and faced sixth-seeded Jacksonville State in the opening round, marking the program's 18th overall and fourth straight OVC tournament appearance. TSU eventually dropped a heartbreaking, 57-55, decision to the Gamecocks to end the season. The team, under the direction of head coach Tracee Wells, has nine returning letterwinners, two redshirt freshmen and two newcomers for the 2011-12 campaign.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Ohio State will officially begin the season on Sunday by hosting Tennessee State in Value City Arena. The Buckeyes finished the 2010-11 season with an overall record of 24-10 with a 10-6 conference mark. OSU tied for third in the Big Ten standings and has nine letterwinners returning from last year's squad.
Tennessee State will meet Ohio State for the second time in the program's history. OSU holds a, 1-0, series lead. In the last meeting between the teams, TSU fell 88-41.
