NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State women’s basketball team put together one of its best games of the season in a, 78-64, win over Eastern Kentucky on Senior Night.
The victory snapped a four-game skid for the Lady Tigers.
Tia Wooten led TSU (10-15, 5-10 OVC) with 19 points while I’mani Davis added 15. Tariana Carter came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points and Tiana Parker posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Eastern Kentucky (9-18, 6-8 OVC) had four players to score in double-digits. Jalen O’Bannon tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds while Shavontae Naylor also registered 14 points. Alexus Cooper (13) and Mariah Massengill (11) also notched double-digits for EKU.
TSU shot 57 percent from the field to start the game and led 20-17 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers continued to shoot better than 50 percent in the second frame and used a 9-3 run to move ahead, 29-20.
With just under two minutes left in the half, Tariana Carter nailed a three-pointer from the top of the key to put the Lady Tigers on top, 37-28.
TSU led 41-33 at halftime and Carter had 13 points at the break.
In the third period, an offensive rebound and putback by Olivia Jones made the score, 45-36, in favor of TSU.
The Lady Tigers grabbed their largest lead of the game, 55-40, with five minutes ticked off the clock behind a Diamond Beatty jumper.
EKU called a timeout to regroup but TSU maintained at least a ten-point cushion over the next several possessions. I’mani Davis scored over her defender just before the clock expired to give TSU a, 63-44, advantage heading into the final frame.
At the final media timeout, TSU had a 68-52 edge.
With just 2:51 remaining, an old fashioned three-point play by I’mani Davis extended TSU’s advantage to, 73-56.
TSU cruised the rest of the way.
