The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team continues OVC action on Thursday, January 10 against Eastern Kentucky. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in Gentry Center.

Tennessee State is still looking for its first win of the 2018-19 campaign after dropping its first two OVC contests. Thursday’s game will mark the third of a four-game homestand.
Sophomore Taylor Roberts leads TSU in scoring with 14.4 points per game while Tia Wooten is averaging 12.2 ppg. Lauren Elliott (5.9 ppg) is the team’s third leading scorer while Jaden Wrightsell pulls down a team-best 7.1 rpg.
As a team, TSU is averaging 58.2 ppg while shooting 31.2 percent from the field, including 20.6 percent from three-point range and 70.6 percent from the free-throw line. TSU is ranked first in the OVC in offensive rebounds (16.0) and fifth in free-throw percentage (.706).
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Eastern Kentucky (2-11, 0-2 OVC) is coming off an, 81-63, loss to Murray State last week. The Colonels also dropped their OVC opener to Austin Peay, 100-65. EKU has three players averaging double-digits in Shay Solomon (12.3 ppg), Abby Wright (11.9 ppg) and Bria Bass (10.2 ppg). Eastern Kentucky is averaging 56.2 points per game while shooting 36.0 percent from the field and 28.5 percent from three-point range.
TSU and EKU will match up for the 64th time in the series history with the Colonels leading 40-23. TSU won both match-ups last season with an exciting, 59-58, victory at EKU and a 69-58 OT win in Gentry Center. The Lady Tigers have won three straight over the Colonels. EKU’s last win was a 66-62 victory on Jan. 14, 2017 in Richmond.
LAST TIME THEY MET
TSU beat EKU, 69-58, in overtime at the Gentry Center. With 3:00 left in OT, the Lady Tigers used a 9-0 run to claim a double-digit lead with less than one minute on the clock. TSU outscored EKU, 16-5, in the extra period. Taylor Roberts led TSU in scoring with 23 points while Tia Wooten added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jaden Wrightsell had 12 boards.
