Josh Cooperwood

Josh Cooperwood was promoted to assistant women's basketball coach in October 2015 after serving as the director of operations for the Tennessee State University Lady Tiger program for three years.  

With the Lady Tigers, Cooperwood will serve as the recruiting coordinator while working with the post players and assisting with offensive and defensive schemes. He will also handle all operational duties that include securing travel plans, setting practice times and handling day-to-day responsibilities within the program.

Prior to joining the women's basketball staff, Cooperwood worked with the men's basketball team as a student coach. He assisted with film break down, scouting and travel meal plans. He also assisted with player development.

A standout student-athlete in undergrad, Cooperwood played two seasons with the Tigers men's basketball program from 2001 until 2003. After completing his eligibility at TSU, he started his professional career with the Windsor Drive in Canada.

From there, he spent a season for Maccabi Qiryat Biallik before returning to Nashville in 2005. After his brief stint back in the United States, Cooperwood played six additional seasons overseas.

He finished his career with the Saba Caspian Mehr in Iran. In his final season, Cooperwood averaged 17.1 points, 5.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

A native of Nashville, Tenn., Cooperwood graduated from Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.  He has two children, Amiyah and Joshua Jr.
