  • During the indoor season, Tennessee State earned six OVC Weekly Awards.
    • 1/11/17 – Amber Hughes – Field Athlete of the Week

  • At the conclusion of the regular season for indoor, senior Amber Hughes was voted as OVC Track Athlete of the Year and OVC Field Athlete of the Year for the second-consecutive year. Last season, she won both awards for the indoor season, becoming the first OVC student-athletes to win both awards in the same season.

  • At the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship, held in Charleston, Ill, the Tigerbelles won 10 individual medals and a team silver in the 4x400m relay.

  • Amber Hughes set the OVC Indoor Championship meet record for the 60m hurdles by clocking in at 8.30.

  • Amber Hughes, who won five individual medals and one with the 4x400m relay team, was named Athlete of the OVC Indoor Championship.

  • Amber Hughes qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas. Hughes earned 11th place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.09m (42’11.5”) on her first attempt. She earned USTFCCCA Second Team All-America honors for her performance.
  • During the outdoor track and field season, Amber Hughes accounted for all four of TSU’s weekly Ohio Valley Conference Awards

  • For her performance during the outdoor regular season, Amber Hughes was voted Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Year for the second-consecutive outdoor season.

  • At the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship, held in Oxford, Ala., TSU won six individual medals to go with the team’s gold medal in the 4x400m relay.

  • After winning four individual medals and one with the 4x400m relay team at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship, Amber Hughes was named Athlete of the Championship for the third year in a row.

  • At the OVC Outdoor Championship, Amber Hughes set the meet record for the 100m hurdles (13.12) and the triple jump (13.52m – 44’4.25”).

  • Qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminary Round for the outdoor season were Amber Hughes (100m Hurdles and Triple Jump), Cyra Beard (High Jump) and Crystal Williams (100m Hurdles).
  • Amber Hughes advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the fifth time in her career.
  • Hughes placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 13.32m (43’8.5”) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. to earn USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors.
  • Hughes scored two points for her finish in the triple jump to help TSU tie for 62nd overall at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

  • Hughes earned OVC Female Athlete of the Year (All Sports). She is the second TSU female student-athlete to win the award. 

  • In Tennessee State’s five cross country meets during the 2016 season, Kenyana Hampton was the team’s top finisher in three of them. Christian Pryor led TSU in the other two meets.

  • The Tigerbelles placed 12th at the OVC Cross Country Championship with 357 points behind Kenyana Hampton’s 66th place finish.
