COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Opening the 2017 season on Saturday, the Tennessee State women’s cross country team showed promise at Tennessee Tech’s Golden Eagle Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course.

In her first collegiate meet, Rebekah Wynn (Union City, Ga.) was TSU’s top finisher by completing the 5K in 24:06.8 for 26th place. The Tigerbelles finished fifth as a team with a total of 122 points.

Mississippi State won the team competition with 24 points.

MEET NOTES

  • Saturday marked the first cross country action in the collegiate careers of Wynn, Kyla Odom (Macon, Ga.), Grenetria Shell (Nashville, Tenn.) and Tayler Smith (Atlanta, Ga.).
  • Kayla Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.), who placed second on the team in four events last season, finished second among TSU’s runners on the day in 24:30.6.
