Coach McGrath Signs Two Golfers for Upcoming Season
Nashville, Tenn. – Head coach Parrish McGrath has announced the signing of two in-state prospects for the Women’s Golf team. Erica Edwards of Murfreesboro and Natalie Spicer of Springfield have signed National Letters of Intent and will take to the course in the fall.
Edwards placed 6th as an individual at the 2012 State Championships after carding a 1-over, 73 on the final day. As a senior, she guided Riverdale High School and coach Earnie Rivas to the District AAA championship, the Regional championship and a 4th place finish at the TSSAA State Tournament.
Edwards was a member of the All-State team as a senior and qualified for the State Championships in her final three seasons. The future Tiger shot a 3-over, 75 to claim 1st place at Regionals after placing second during Districts. One of her top performances of the year was earning the Top Medalist at the Murfreesboro Invitational with a 2-under, 70 and helped her team claim first place.
Edwards plans on studying Dental Hygiene to become a dentist. The middle Tennessee native works with hitting coach Mike Wine.
Spicer was a three-year letter winner for head coach Richard Beirne at Springfield High School. She qualified for Regionals in each of her three seasons and placed 5th at the District Tournament her sophomore season when she was named Robertson County Female Golfer of the Year. Spicer has participated in numerous TGA and USJGT events. The multi-sport athlete was also a four-year letter winner in softball and was named to the All-County team as a sophomore.
Spicer is extremely active and has been a member of the Future Career and Community Leaders of America, Beta Club, Link Leaders, Media Arts Club, including being named Secretary as a junior and President as a senior. She has also been involved with Junior Civitan, Health Occupation Students of America, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Student Council, Class Treasurer as a junior and Student-Body Treasurer as a senior, Key Club and President of the National Honor Society.
Spicer has had her hand in the community as a three-year member of Sigma Delta Sorority and helping with the Angel Tree Project, Cheatham County Clothing Drive, Canned Food Drive, and Toys for Tots for three years. She has also helped at the Senior Citizen Center, Springfield Heights Nursing Home and with Trick or Trunk for Blair Street Children.
The Springfield product intends to major in Biochemistry to prepare for medical school and inspires to be a radiologist. Spicer works with hitting coach Michele “Barney” Alary.
The Tigers will open the 2013-14 season on September 1 at the Alabama State Fall Golf Classic.
