MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- Tennessee State women’s team put together another strong showing at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro. This was the third day of the Ohio Valley ITA Regionals.
In singles play, freshman Zina Graves cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Western Kentucky’s Lisa Friess. Sophomore Ani Popiashvili also earned a victory against Vanessa Madrigal from Wright State. Popiashvili won the first set, 6-3, before Madrigal bounced back with a 6-3 win of her own. In the third, Popiashvili took control with a 10-1 win.
TSU would also record two doubles wins on the day. Graves and Popiashvili would team up for a win against Wright State. Natraj and Vishwanath joined forces and also defeated Wright State.
Head Coach Monroe Walker was pleased with his teams’ performance stating, “I am very happy with the play today. We played with a lot more intensity. Ani was not playing her best today and she still pulled out a tough win in three sets. It shows how much work she has put in. Phyllicia lost a tough three set match but is getting better every game. We dominated in doubles and played our best we have played in the fall.”
