NASHVILLE --- Beginning the 2016-17 indoor season at the Vanderbilt Opener, the Tennessee State women’s track and field team turned in a number of strong performances at Vanderbilt’s Multipurpose Facility on Saturday.
All-American Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) shined for the Tigerbelles, clocking in with a winning time of 8.51 in the 60m hurdles.
Hughes then teamed with Kayla Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.), Alexia King (Atlanta, Ga.) and Christian Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.) for a 3:47.34 finish in the 4x400m relay for third place.
Also on the track, Crystal Williams (Gainesville, Fla.) ran a fourth-place time of 8.71 in the 60m hurdles, while Christian Pryor secured sixth in the 800m in 2:15.89.
In the field events, Cyra Beard (Jackson, Tenn.) took third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.18m (39’11.5”) on her fourth jump. Daimer Gordon (Ellenwood, Ga.) took home fifth place in the weight throw with a toss of 14.91m (48’11”).
The next competition for TSU is the Ed Temple Classic on Jan. 8 at the Gentry Center.
