Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State men's and women's tennis dropped its' opening season matches to Morehead State on Saturday afternoon at the TSU Tiger Courts. Â The games were shortened due to rainy weather in the area.
The Tigers women (0-1, 0-1 OVC) fell 4-0 to the Eagles (8-4, 1-0 OVC), while the men (0-1, 0-1 OVC) dropped a 5-0 contest to MSU (8-4, 1-0 OVC).
For the women, the Tigers lost the doubles point, dropping a pair of 8-0 contests. TSU's No. 3 seed Shardel Suber and Kadijah Williams fell 8-0 to Morehead State's Jessica Montemayor and Shilpa Nanka.
Lauren and London Thomas dropped an 8-0 contest to Victoria Cran and Brooke Helms. Melynda Simmons and Kryston Mason picked up one point in the set, but dropped an 8-1 doubles match to Alix Young and Alexis Garrett.
In singles action, No. 2 Garrett defeated London Thomas 5-0 before Thomas retired. Lauren Thomas picked up one point in the No. 3 spot, but dropped an 8-1 contest to Cran. Montemayor knocked off Mason, 8-0 in the four slot.
For the men, the Tigers dropped the doubles point after an 8-0 and 9-7 loss. Morehead State's No. 2 team of Roger White and Nathan Blum won 8-0 over Williams Simmons and Jared Asher.
The Tigers' No.1 team of Lawrence Washington and Shaun Ingram lost a tough contest, 7-9, to Justin Harlow and Justin Shafik.
In singles' action, the Tigers forfeited the No. 6 point. James Shelton II lost 8-0 to Nathan Martin, 8-0 in the fifth slot.
Morehead State's David Clifford defeated Asher, 8-1 in the four spot, while Seve Day knocked off Simmons, 8-0.
TSU continues the three-match home stand with a contest against Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday, March 21.
