NASHVILLE --- Another strong start was not enough as Tennessee State fell to Tennessee Tech, 88-47, Saturday evening in the Eblen Center.

TSU (2-18, 0-10 OVC) played a solid first 10-minutes but only managed to score eight points in the second period. The Lady Tigers were not able to climb out of the hole.

Jazmine Young led TSU in scoring with 14 points while Jaden Wrightsell posted her third consecutive double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Jasmine Broner pulled down eight rebounds.

Tennessee Tech (16-5, 9-1 OVC) had four players to score in double-digits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a very competitive first quarter, Tennessee Tech had a slight, 15-13, lead over Tennessee State.
  • In the second frame, TSU was down 18-15, when TTU used an 11-2 run to move ahead, 29-17.
  • The Lady Tigers' scoring drought continued and The Golden Eagles stretched their advantage to 37-21 at halftime.
  • TSU was outscored, 22-8, in the second period. TTU scored 15 points off of TSU's 11 turnovers.
  • TTU opened the second half with a three-pointer to put the opponents on top, 40-21, but Deaja Richardson answered with a triple on the next possession.
  • The Lady Tigers cut the deficit down to 15 points following a bucket from Jaden Wrightsell and forced a TTU timeout.
  • Out of the break, Tech answered with six straight points to increase the advantage to 55-34.
  • The Lady Tiger offense went cold again and the home team took advantage of the drought.
  • Tech opened its lead up to 61-36 after outscoring TSU 24-15 in the third quarter.
  • A 7-2 spurt to start the final frame made the score, 68-38, in favor of Tennessee Tech with 7:16 left to play.

GAME NOTES

  • Tennessee Tech has won four straight over TSU.
  • Jazmine Young scored in double-digits for the 13htime this season.
  • Wrightsell also notched her third consecutive and seventh double-double of her career.

UP NEXT

  • TSU will return to Nashville to host Austin Peay on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. in the Gentry Center. The game will be the annual Kids Day event.
