NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State University women's basketball team dropped an 81-69 decision to Tennessee Tech Saturday night in the Gentry Center.

TSU got off to a slow start and stumbled in the third period which led to a 21-point deficit. The Lady Tigers continued to fight and managed to close the gap to single digits at one point but ultimately could not dig out of the hole. 

Jazmine Young led TSU with a career-high 29 points while Taylor Roberts came off the bench to score 10 points.

Tennessee State shot 44.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range. TSU made 15-of-17 from the free-throw line.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A sluggish start led to TSU falling behind by double-digits late in the first quarter.
  • After 10 minutes of action Tennessee State trailed, 22-14.
  • The Lady Tigers stayed within striking distance and cut the deficit down to seven points before going into the halftime break trailing, 43-34.
  • Tennessee Tech started the second half with four empty possessions but TSU could not take advantage of the drought.
  • The Lady Tigers ended up getting outscored 20-12 in the third period and trialed, 63-46, heading into the final stanza. 
  • TSU continued to battle and chopped TTU's lead down to 11 with 7:29 remaining.
  • The score was 74-63 in favor of Tech with 3:11 remaining.
  • TSU was not able to erase the deficit.
