Football Falls to Lindenwood

NASHVILLE — Tennessee State fell 35-13 to Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon at home.

The Lions improved to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play, while the Tigers dropped to 2-7 and 0-5 in the league.

Zack Simmons-Brown led the Tigers' rushing attack with 53 yards on 13 carries, averaging 4.1 yards per attempt. Lelan Wilhoite added 18 yards on the ground, averaging 6.0 yards per carry.

Quarterback Byron McNair connected most often with DeVaughn Slaughter, who hauled in two passes for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Syncere Safeeullah paced the Tennessee State defense with an interception. Braelen Perry added four tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, and a sack, while James Stewart notched six tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble in the loss.

Both teams forced one turnover, with Tennessee State converting its takeaway into a field goal. Defensively, the Tigers limited Lindenwood to just 149 passing yards.

How It Happened

Tennessee State struck first, capping the opening drive with a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Lindenwood answered to even the score at 7-7 before the Tigers regained the lead on a 30-yard field goal to make it 10-7.

Lindenwood then scored 28 straight points to build a 35-10 advantage. Tennessee State added a field goal early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 35-13, but neither team scored again.
