Men's Basketball Falls 84-72 to SIUE

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. — Five Tigers scored at least 10 points, but the Tennessee State men's basketball team fell to the SIUE 84-72 on the road Saturday.

The Tigers (13-14, 9-7 OVC) had five players score in double figures, led by Justus Jackson, who had 15 points and five assists. Aaron Nkrumah added 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals and Knute Wood helped out with 12 points and four assists off of the bench.

Tennessee State out-rebounded SIUE 41-30 in Saturday's game, led by Nkrumah's seven boards. The Tigers also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds and scored eight second chance points.

Tennessee State did a great job disrupting SIUE shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Ronald Jessamy led the way individually for the Tigers with three rejections.

How It Happened

After falling behind 9-7, Tennessee State went on a 7-0 run with 16:00 left in the first half to take a 14-9 lead. The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 40-39 advantage. Tennessee State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 40 points.

SIUE proceeded to take a 50-45 lead before Tennessee State went on a 10-0 run, finished off by Wood's three, to seize a 55-50 lead with 13:00 to go in the contest. SIUE re-asserted control, outscoring the Tigers 34-17 the rest of the way to hand Tennessee State the 84-72 loss. Tennessee State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting five shots from deep to score 15 of its 32 points.
