The Tennessee State men's tennis team secured a hard-fought 4-3 win over Xavier on March 13, using a strong doubles showing and clutch singles performances to outlast the Musketeers.
TSU opened the match by claiming the doubles point, taking two of three courts. The duos of Nicholas Adamec and Tatenda Mutetwa, along with Alexander Adamec and James A. Germinal, each earned 6-3 victories to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage. The pairing of Taj Hibbert and Mete Koseoglu held a 5-4 lead before their match went unfinished.
In singles play, the Tigers split the six matches, but it was enough to clinch the overall victory. Hibbert delivered a key win at the top spot, battling through a first-set tiebreak before cruising to a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Herdoiza. Nicholas Adamec added another point with a solid 6-3, 6-4 win, while Alexander Adamec sealed the team victory with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 performance.
Despite strong efforts, TSU dropped three singles matches. James A. Germinal pushed his match to three sets but fell 3-6, 6-3, 5-7, while Mete Koseoglu and Bogelin were also narrowly defeated.
With the doubles point proving to be the difference, Tennessee State secured the 4-3 win in a tightly contested matchup.
