EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Tennessee State women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Southern Indiana on Friday afternoon, highlighted by strong doubles play and decisive singles wins.
DOUBLES POINT
The Tigers secured the doubles point behind dominant performances at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Natalie Walsh and Julie Tungamarial opened doubles competition with a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. Southern Indiana answered at No. 1 doubles, but Aroa Arrieta Castillo and Jovana Nikolic closed doubles play with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles to give TSU the early advantage.
SINGLES PLAY
Tennessee State captured three singles matches to secure the team victory.
Jovana Nikolic led the way at No. 1 singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 performance. Southern Indiana responded with wins at No. 5 and No. 2 singles, tightening the match.
The Tigers regained momentum as Aroa Arrieta Castillo earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, before Taylor Ellis clinched the match at No. 6 singles with a 7-6, 6-1 win.
