Throughout the summer months leading up to the Tennessee State University Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet on Aug. 27, Tennessee State Athletics will highlight the members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2026. This distinguished group of former student-athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors helped shape the proud tradition of Tiger athletics through championship performances, individual achievements and lasting contributions to the university. Their stories reflect the excellence, perseverance and impact that have defined Tennessee State Athletics across generations.
Terry Blocker | Baseball | 1979-81
One of the most accomplished players in Tennessee State baseball history, Terry Blocker was a three-time All-Nashville selection from 1979-81 and earned All-America honors in 1981. A standout outfielder, he batted .367 as a freshman, .375 as a sophomore, and .402 as a senior while becoming one of the most dangerous baserunners in collegiate baseball. During his career, Blocker successfully stole 112 of 117 bases, a remarkable 95.7 percent success rate. Following his senior season, Blocker became one of the highest-drafted players in program history when the New York Mets selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 1981 Major League Baseball Draft. He immediately excelled in professional baseball, batting .341 with seven home runs for the Little Falls Mets in his first season and later playing alongside future Major Leaguers Darryl Strawberry and Billy Beane in the Mets organization.
