LADY TIGERS DOWN ALABAMA A&M IN THREE

NASHVILLE---The Tennessee State University volleyball team downed the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M in three games (30-14, 30-23, 30-21) Tuesday night in Kean Hall. In doing so, the Lady Tigers snap a six match losing streak and move to 2-6 on the year. In game one, Tennessee State put together a series of runs to claim commanding leads of 17-7 and 23-9 before sealing the 30-14 win. Alabama A&M played with more intensity in game two, quickly grabbing a 5-0 lead. TSU regrouped and tied the game at 9-9. The game went point for point but TSU pulled away down the stretch in route to the win. Sensing a three game sweep, the Lady Tigers jumped ahead 4-0 in the third game. The Bulldogs continued to chip away at the lead and cut the TSU lead down to 11-9. Tennessee State however, rallied off five unanswered points that extended the lead to 16-9. TSU held on to the lead for the rest of the game. TSU hit a respectable .269 for the game while Alabama A&M only managed a hitting percentage of .024. Collese Dornan led the Lady Tigers with 10 kills while Christian Lowe posted a team high eight blocks in addition to 14 digs. Candace Saleaumua dished out 36 set assists. The Lady Tigers return to action on Thursday when they begin conference play and face off against Southeast Missouri at 7:00 in Kean Hall.
