Tennessee State has been well represented on the rosters of 23 teams in 20 Super Bowls. Out of the 20 players who made Super Bowl appearances, nine have won a championship with their respective teams.

Former Tigers Willie Mitchell and Fletcher Smith were on the Kansas City Chiefs in the first ever Super Bowl in 1967. Bennie Anderson was the last former Tiger to win a Super Bowl ring, playing offensive guard on the world champion, Baltimore Ravens, in 2001.

Anthony Pleasant (New England Patriots), Joe Gilliam, Jr. (Pittsburgh Steelers), Ed “Too Tall” Jones (Dallas Cowboys), Mike Hegman (Dallas Cowboys) and Randy Fuller played in more than one Super Bowl. Fuller is the only Tiger to make appearances with two different teams playing with the Pittsburg Steelers and Atlanta Falcons while Hegman and Jones were teammates in Super Bowl XII and XIII. Thus far, Jones has tallied the most appearances with three. In Super Bowl XV, Claude Humphrey and Rodney Parker became another TSU pair to play for the NFL Championship with the Philadelphia Eagles.

TSU great Richard Dent is the only alum to be named game MVP , helping to lead the Chicago Bears over New England to conclude the 1985 season in Super Bowl XX. in his rookie season, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie helped the Arizona Cardinals to their first NFL Championship in 2009 appearing in Super Bowl XLIII.
