Jordan's Career High Carries Tigers over Jacksonville State
Nashville, Tenn. - Gershom Jordan scored a career-high 21 points (10-of-11) and Jerrell Houston tipped in a shot at the buzzer to help Tennessee State rally back to defeat Jacksonville State, 59-57, Thursday night inside the Gentry Center.
With the conference win, TSU (6-12, 4-4 OVC) snaps a three-game losing streak. The Tigers shot 48 percent from the floor (22-of-46) scoring 34 points in the paint to overcome a nine-point deficit in the second half.
Jerrell Houston added a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Gerald Robinson, Jr. finished with 16 points and five rebounds.
The Tigers shot 12-of-25 including two-of-four from three-point range in the first half and held their largest lead of night, 30-17, with 1:51 remaining before the break. JSU scored five unanswered points to narrow the lead at halftime, 32-22.
Jordan led all scorers at the break with 13 points finishing with the game high.
In the second half, the Gamecocks (8-9, 2-6 OVC) took advantage of a 29-10 run to lead at the 7:14 mark, 51-42. Brandon Crawford led JSU with 17 points and nine rebounds while Jeremy Bynum scored 12 points hauling in eight rebounds.
TSU fought back and executed a 15-6 run capped by a Jordan lay-up tying the ball game at 57 with 1:07 remaining. On the Gamecocks next possession, a Crawford jumper rimmed in and out with :34 seconds remaining and Jordan gathered the rebound for TSU. Jordan also hauled in a career-high eight rebounds.
With the game tied at 57 with :09 seconds left, Robinson drove to the basket finding Jordan underneath. Jordan missed his only shot of the night and Houston was in position for the Tigers' game-winner before the buzzer.
The Tigers will host Tennessee Tech in OVC play, Saturday, Jan.24th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
