Nashville --- The Tennessee State University
volleyball team was swept by visiting Austin Peay Friday night in Kean Hall.
The Tigers (2-16, 1-6 OVC) dropped their sixth straight
match while the Lady Govs improved to 13-5 and 7-1 in the league.
Tennessee
State hit. 130 and
recorded 35 kills while Austin Peay turned in a .271 hitting percentage and
tallied 46 kills. The digs were basically even as TSU notched 67 and APSU
registered 68. There weren't a lot of blocks in the match as the Tigers posted
one and the Lady Govs had three.
Santia Sanders just missed double-digits in kills with nine
while Vicmari Prospero tallied eight. Terakka Walker led the Tigers with 18
digs while Santia Sanders added 17. Kamille King and Calasia Williams chipped
in 10 digs apiece.
Yamari Padilla-Collazo dished out 30 set assists for the
Tigers and Shaquita Williams tallied three service aces.
Stephanie Champine led the Lady Govs with a match-high 14
kills to go along with 16 digs while Kirstin Distler had 10 kills and 12 digs.
Sarah Alisaleh notched 17 digs and Paige Economos finished with 12.
After falling behind13-6 in the
first set the Tigers clawed to within two (16-14). APSU extended the lead back
up to seven (22-15) but TSU once again battled back to knot the score 24-24.
The Lady Govs, however, used a kill and a service ace to escape with the extra
points win.
Austin Peay carried the momentum
into set number two as Tennessee
State hit a dismal .000
percentage and only tallied six kills. The Lady Govs used a 9-3 run to open up
the advantage and never looked back.
The third set was a battle and
neither team was able to pull away. Late in the set, a timely block by the
Tigers brought them to within one (23-22). A TSU attack error gave APSU match
point before a kill by Kirstin Distler sealed the win.
Next the Tigers will travel to Alabama to face UAB in non-conference action
on Oct.13.
