--- The Tennessee State University volleyball
team dropped a 3-0 decision to Eastern Kentucky
Friday night in McBrayer Arena.
The set scores were 21-25, 18-25 and 20-25.
Tennessee State (3-21, 2-10 OVC) dropped its fourth straight
while Eastern Kentucky (6-16, 5-7 OVC)
extended its home winning streak to six. Both teams tallied 32 kills while TSU
recorded an attack percentage of .076 and EKU hit .174 for the match. The
Tigers notched 58 digs and the Colonels registered 54.
Naomi Wells and Shaquita Williams led TSU with eight kills
apiece while Yamari Padilla - Collazo recorded 25 set assists and 16 digs.
Kamille King added 15 digs.
Lauren Snyder led EKU with 10 kills in addition to 11 digs.
Abby O'Conner led the Colonels with 16 digs while Lindsey Loesher chipped in
11.
The score went back and forth in the first set and featured
13 ties. With the frame knotted 19-19, EKU posted the next four points to go
ahead 23-19. The Colonels would not relinquish the lead.
With the score tied 4-4 in the second set, EKU used a 14-8
run to capture an 18-12 advantage. The Colonels took the set and moved to a 2-0
match lead.
Back-to-back aces by Terakka Walker got TSU off to a 5-1 start in the third
set. An ace by Williams made it 10-5 before an EKU attack error gave TSU a
six-point advantage, 13-7.
Later, EKU used a 9-2 run to turn a five point deficit into
a two-point lead. The Colonels managed to tie the frame, 18-18, then consecutive
Tiger attack errors gave them a 20-18 lead. Eastern led the rest of the way.
Volleyball will return to action tomorrow at Morehead State. Match time is scheduled for 2
p.m. in Wetherby Gym.
