Nashville --- The Tennessee State
University volleyball team fell to Morehead State 3-0 Tuesday night in Kean Hall.
Tennessee State (2-15, 1-5 OVC) dropped its fifth straight
while Morehead State improved to 13-5 overall and 6-1
in the league.
The Tigers hit a dismal .088 and tallied 33 kills in the
match while the Eagles managed a .159 attack percentage and 38 kills. TSU
registered 50 digs compared to MSU's 48 but the Eagles won the battle of the
team blocks 11 to six.
Junior Vicmari Prospero tallied a team best nine kills while
freshman Calasia Williams turned in 11 digs for TSU. Senior Yamari Padilla-
Collazo dished out 28 set assists and recorded two service aces.
Morehead
State had two players to
post double-digits in kills led by Ellie Roberson (11). Kaitlin Craven notched
10 kills for the Eagles. Kirstie Brangers (12) and Kristina Schoo (10) led MSU
in digs.
TSU hit its best attack percentage of the match in the first
set, .226, but MSU used a 10-5 run early in the frame to open up the lead and
eventually claim the 25-18 win.
After falling behind 18-11 in set two, the Tigers rallied to
within two points behind a 7-2 run. The Eagles, however, maintained the lead and kept the Tigers at bay.
Despite only recording a .000 hitting percentage in the
third set, Tennessee
State kept the contest
close. With the score tied 20-20, Morehead posted the next three points to go
ahead 23-20. TSU responded by scoring the next two points but back-to-back
attack errors by the Tigers sealed the win for the Eagles.
