--- The Tennessee State University volleyball
team dropped three straight sets to Tennessee Tech Friday night in Eblen Center.
The set scores were 23-25, 17-25 and 15-25.
Tennessee
State dropped its sixth
straight and fell to 3-23 (2-12 OVC) on the season while Tennessee Tech moved
to 10-14 (9-6 OVC).
Freshman Naomi Wells posted double-figures in kills for the
fourth time this season with a match-high 15. Impressively, she only committed
two attack errors and hit a .464. Yamari Padilla-Collazo recorded 28 assists
and eight digs while Kamille King also chipped in eight digs.
Tennessee
State recorded its best
attack percentage of the match in set one with a .310 but Tennessee Tech
managed to squeeze out the 25-23 win. With the frame tied 23-23, a Golden Eagle
kill coupled with a Tiger attack error gave Tech the victory.
Tech used a 12-6 run to open up a 16-10 advantage in the
second set. TTU built its lead up to 22-15 before eventually going on to win.
In the third and final set, with TSU trailing 13-12, Tech
rallied off six unanswered points to push the lead to 19-12. The Tigers were
not able to overcome the deficit.
As a team, Tennessee
State hit .176 and
tallied 38 kills. Defensively, the Tigers finished with 47 digs and 4.0 team
blocks. Tennessee Tech had a .330 attack percentage and tallied 49 kills. The
Golden Eagles registered 59 digs and 5.0 team blocks.
The Tigers will return to action tomorrow when they face the
league leading Gamecocks of Jacksonville State. Match time is slated for 2 p.m.
